"Water can form an ocean, yet it can also take the shape of a vase. Air can form the sky, yet it can also take the shape of a balloon.
These two fluid elements shape our world."
Hideyuki Usui (b. 1980, Saitama, Japan) is an artist who creates installations using "water and air"—the most familiar and universal substances to humanity.
He graduated from Musashino Art University in 2003 with a degree in Imaging Arts and Sciences, and completed his Master’s degree in Design at Tokyo University
of the Arts in 2005.
While his early career focused on video expression and kinetic art, he has recently moved his presentation space into natural environments.
By applying precise technological control to fluid elements that are inherently unsuited for physical modeling, his works act as sensory devices that reconnect
human perception with the environment.
